TPE for medical applications

We manufacture thermoplastic elastomers for pharmaceutical and paramedical applications

Chemiton Med® is the group of TPE compounds for medical, paramedical and pharmaceutical applications. Chemiton MED® thermoplastic elastomers are phthalate-free, a feature which makes them even lighter than PVC and any vulcanized rubber. They are also USP Cl. VI certified and consequently biocompatible, meeting all regulations for food contact. Ultrasoft TPE for medical applications can be sterilized by autoclave, EtO, Beta and Gamma Rays and, therefore, ideal to guarantee the highest standards in terms of quality and efficiency.

Translucent TPE

Chemiton Med® translucent compound is the ideal TPE for paramedical and pharmaceutical applications. It can be used to make various soft touch components for medical use such as injection points, twist off closures, connectors, peristaltic pump tubing, fittings, stoppers, seals, valves and membranes turning out to be a great alternative to silicone.

The material passes the haemolysis, cytotoxicity, intracutaneous reactivity and acute systemic toxicity tests. It is also suitable for the production of intramuscular implant devices. It has DMF registration with the FDA (Food and Drug Administration).

Perforable grey TPE

Perforable gray range of thermoplastic elastomers for medical applications are commonly used for disposable perforable pharmaceutical closures. Thanks to excellent resealing, it is the ideal thermoplastic material for the production of pharmaceutical and paramedical packaging: closures for penicillin vials, caps for injectable antibiotics, perforable membranes, caps and seals.

The material passes the haemolysis, cytotoxicity, intracutaneous reactivity and acute systemic toxicity tests; it is also suitable for the production of intramuscular implant devices.

TPE for cosmetic use

The Chemiton Med® TPE compound for cosmetic use has a very low level of migration in contact with simulant D2 (olive oil), and therefore an excellent chemical resistance to oily substances used in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical sector. The transparency, easy colorability and flexibility that characterize these materials make them an ideal choice for the production of health and beauty care items. These compounds are completely safe for skin contact, and they meet food contact regulations being PVC-free and plasticizer-free.

The material passes the haemolysis, cytotoxicity, intracutaneous reactivity and acute systemic toxicity tests; it is also suitable for the production of intramuscular implant devices.

  • Based on fully saturated styrenic-block-copolymers (HSBC)
  • Crystal clear
  • Optimal surface finishing
  • Easy processing by extrusion
  • Good compatibility with almost all polyolefins
  • Very low level of migration in contact with fatty and oily substances
  • High resistance to alcohols
  • Wide range of service temperatures
  • Weather, UV and ozone resistant
  • Available hardness: from 50 Shore A to 45 Shore D
  • Available density: 0,89 g/cm³
  • No plasticizers, PVC, phthalates, latex and halogenated substances
  • Compliant with USP Cl VI, ISO 10993-4, ISO 10993-5, ISO 10993-10 and ISO 10993-11

Low permeability TPE

Thermoplastic elastomers characterized by low gas permeability are an effective alternative to vulcanized halobutyl rubbers such as bromobutyl and chlorobutyl. The great oxygen permeability allows using these materials in applications that require low OTR (Oxygen Transmission Rate) value. Such as, for example, some food and pharmaceutical closures or vacuum seals. The material passes the haemolysis, cytotoxicity, intracutaneous reactivity and acute systemic toxicity tests.

  • Based on fully saturated styrenic-block-copolymers (HSBC)
  • Natural colour, easy to be coloured
  • Optimal surface finishing
  • Easy processing by extrusion and injection moulding
  • Good compatibility with almost all polyolefins
  • Very low permeability to gases and in particular to oxygen (low OTR value)
  • Low permeability to water vapor (low WVTR value)
  • Weather, UV and ozone resistant
  • Available hardness: from 55 Shore A to 90 Shore A
  • Available density: from 1,25 g/cm³ to 1,29 g/cm³
  • No PVC, phthalates, latex and halogenated substances
  • Compliant with USP Cl VI, ISO 10993-4, ISO 10993-5, ISO 10993-10 and ISO 10993-11
  • Compliant with 10/2011/CE (except for fatty foods and pH <4,5 water-based food), FDA, 1907/2006/CE REACH Annex XIV and XVII, ROHS, RAEE, WEEE, ELV, EN71/3

TPE for filming

These SEBS-based TPE compounds are ideal for bubble filming of thin elastic films. The material has an opal/translucent or transparent appearance and can be mixed with anti-slip and anti-lock release agents. The colorability and workability are similar to those of polyethylene film.

This thermoplastic material is suitable for the production of single-layer elastic film for surgical drapes. It is also used to improve the characteristics of polyolefin-based adhesive films for applications related to personal care and hygiene, such as the production of diapers for children and adults. The material passes the haemolysis, cytotoxicity, intracutaneous reactivity and acute systemic toxicity tests.

  • Based on fully saturated styrenic-block-copolymers (HSBC)
  • Opal/translucent or transparent
  • Optimal surface finishing
  • Easy processing by film blowing, coextrusion with all the polyolefins of the field
